Valentines Day Crafting - Cards

Happy New Year! I'm excited to start the year off getting crafty. Right now I am already preparing for Valentine's Day. I wanted to make my husband and my son a card and I ended up making several options! I don't typically make cards or use stamps but I had fun giving it a try.

I also made some Printable Valentines to give to my little niece and nephews. You can download them here if you like!

I looked around and found some really cute free printable Valentine's Day Cards and thought I'd share my favorites from my search!

These Sweetheart Valentines from BunnyCakes are simple and adorable!

These Lego Movie Valentines from Todaysmama are fantastic!

I adore these simple heart Valentines from the Red Kitchen.

I found a couple Star Wars Valentines! My favorite is from AGrandeLife. Aren't they cute?

That's all for now! Check back for some more Valentine's Day crafting coming up in the next few weeks!

Sailor Moon Inspired Crafts

In case I haven't mentioned it before, I love Sailor Moon. I am beyond excited for Sailor Moon Crystal on July 5th, 2014. I thought I'd share some things today that were inspired by Sailor Moon.

First are some gorgeous Sailor Moon inspired earrings that are on sale at our Etsy Shop!

I wanted to make a quick and easy card. I decided to use my butterfly hole punch and some enamel dots to make the Sailor Scout bows. It came together very quickly, which is perfect for me. Now I just need to add my greeting and it is ready to go!

Another item for sale in our Etsy Shop is this Sailor Moon Inspired Necklace. It goes nicely with the earrings! It reminds me of her scepter in Sailor Moon Super S.

I love Duct Tape crafts and this one blew me away. It is a Duct Tape Purse inspired by Sailor Moon's outfit. The one below is the one I bought myself, but Dexter's Boutique on Etsy has several more styles! Isn't it so pretty?

It also occurs to me that the Captain American Barrettes we posted before are pretty similar to the wing barrettes that Sailor Moon wears in her hair! A few minor tweaks and you're set!

I'm off to do some more Sailor Moon Crafting because I'm too excited to stop!

Say No More, Mon Amour! It's Rex Manning Day!

We are a bit in love with Empire Records and I've had the whole movie memorized for years. Today is Rex Manning Day and I wanted to celebrate this movie and share some great music related crafts I've seen.

Here is a tutorial on how to make a notebook from an old record. I love this idea and tutorial by Stars For Streetlights.

Next is this cool wristband also made from a record by College Candy. I've seen a ton of jewelry made from records and guitar strings and picks- so cool!

I love this coin purse made from an old cassette tape by chezlin.  I also saw a notebook made with a tape- very cute!

DIY Fashion  shows you how to make this wallet, too!

If you have one of those pick punches you could cut picks out of lots of different materials! Shannon once covered an entire scrapbook with them for me. I love this guitar pick table. I can think of a lot of things I'd love to cover in guitar picks.

DIY Budget Girl shows you how to make a shelf out of an old guitar. I've seen lots of these online for sale and just think its a great idea if I ever find a cheap guitar at a thrift store.

I've seen a lot of tutorials for melting records into bowls. Here's one from Instructables.com. I have a few of these and I use them around my craft table.

I hope you are inspired to make some music related projects - I know I'm dying to try out a few of these this weekend! The time to hesitate is through.

Snow Day Activities Round Up

We've had a lot of snow around here this winter, which has led to a lot of snow days with the kids. It gets a little crazy around here if the kids aren't kept distracted. Here are some fun ideas to keep things sane.

First, do you have any washi tape or masking tape?

Dirt and Boogers made this adorable little city using some tape and dumping Legos, blocks, and a train set out for the kids to create.

This is another example of a town made from tape on the floor.

Since you already have the tape out, why not try a fun maze for all those action figures to get through? By OurScribbledWalls.

Have any Marshmallows in the cabinet? Try these out:

A tower made of marshmallows and spaghetti. There are so many ways you can make one, and its fun to see how tall you can get it! Here's one my teammates made at work, but you can definitely get some kids in on the action.

License2mommy made this cute indoor snowman from marshmallows.

If you want to get really creative and do some DIY with the kids, try these:

Make your own playdough using stuff from your cabinet!

These wands by trainsandtutus might take some setting up the night before, but they turn out amazing!

If you have kids that love to build things, try these activities:

Stacking cups up high and then knocking them all over! I know a few little boys that would love doing that! By Allboyhomeschool.

There are so many ways to do a tension rod fort, and if you have one or two of those rods handy you are good to go! Here is a cute pirate fort by diaryofapreppymom.

If you have some boxes laying around, why not make a city? Here's one I made for my son with boxes left over from Christmas. It started off as Gotham City, then later blankets were thrown across the boxes to make a Ninja Turtle Sewer. He played in there a long time!

And if you're really interested in going out in that snow, here are a couple ideas to make it more interesting:

Put some food coloring into spray bottles and spray the snow! How adorable is this snowman by HowDoesShe?

Use that same food coloring and some balloons to make these big ice marbles! Hide them in the snow and let the kids go on a treasure hunt.

I hope that gives you some fun ideas to get through the rest of the winter season. Here's hoping for warmer days ahead!

Lego Week - Lego Wrap Up

I hope everyone enjoyed the past two weeks of Lego crafting inspiration! We certainly had fun putting it all together. Here are a few other ideas we came up with.

Lego Coasters:

I took one of the $5.00 building mats and cut it in quarters to make some fun Lego coasters. Since the top of the mat is slippery, I made a border of Legos along the edge so the cups don't slide off. I figured after using these at a party you could give the coasters to the kids to take home and play with.

We also added Lego to hand soap and sanitizer in this fun project:
This project is super easy to make. Take an empty soap bottle that you removed the old labels from and pour a little clear soap or sanitizer inside. Add in some Lego pieces and more soap. Keep layering until there is an inch left from the top-- don't forget to leave space for the pump! With the soap, the Lego eventually floats back to the top. With the sanitizer, the pieces stay practically where you put them.

The two bottles on the outside are hand sanitizer. I'll be using that at my desk at work (so many germs!) and at our diaper changing area in the house. The hand soap is being kept in the bathroom with the training potty. It is just another exciting reason to get potty trained soon soon soon!

Here are some treats I tried out, all inspired by Legos:

That's flat bread pizza my son helped me make and cut into pieces, some fruit snacks on top of fruit strips, peanut butter crackers on top of more peanut butter crackers, very big rice krispie treats, and sugar cookies with colored icing and M&M's on top. It was fun snacking on all of these goodies this week.

Feel free to share any Lego Inspired crafts or recipes you've tried in the comments below!

I hope you all enjoyed our  Lego Week. To see all of our Lego Inspired posts,  click on this link.
We're off to the movies to see the new Lego Movie this weekend!

Kicking off the Christmas Season - Gift in a Jar Ideas

The Christmas Season has officially arrived! I hope everyone has been taking advantage of great ideas and deals for their gift lists. I am happy to report it is already feeling like Christmas here with the daily Christmas books, music, and activities. So far, so good!

Today I wanted to share some of my favorite DIY Jar Gift ideas that I've found around the internet. There are so many amazing ideas for DIY Gifts and the Jar Gifts are simple, quick, and fun!

Here is a great idea for women of all ages. Grab your jar and add nail polish, soaps, nail clippers, wash clothes, lip balm, hand sanitizers, etc.

A jar full of small household items for someone with a new home. That can include cleaner, washcloths, bag clips, magnets, kitchen tools, batteries, etc.

I love this idea for friends who work long or late hours. Fill a jar with coffee/tea packets, nuts, chocolate, energy bars, etc.

Know anyone who sews or likes to craft? Make them a sewing kit! This idea makes me think of all sorts of crafts to make jars for!

Yum- ingredients for hot chocolate. Add a mug and I'm good to go!

This idea is so cute for kids- especially when their parents tell you they have enough toys! Make your own playdough and decorate the jar for the kids.

I've seen this idea pop up all over pinterest this year, and I love it! Make your own snow globe, personalize for your loved one!

This one is simple. Put an apron in a jar and add your favorite recipe!

This idea is great for kids! Paint the jars and use a sharpie to make them look like Lego Heads. Add some legos inside and bask in glory.

Sometimes the most meaningful present you can give to your partner is one that expresses exactly how you feel and costs next to nothing. Share each of your reasons in a jar and give to your loved one.

Make your own bubbles and give them out to the kids. Fun!

I love S'mores. They are delicious! Here is a yummy recipe for a S'more Jar.

Lastly, the Cookie Mix jar. There are a ton of recipes out there and they are so creative. Here's a cute one for Cowgirl Cookies. There are pink candies and oats and chocolate chips. YUM.

Stay tuned for more great gift and craft ideas all month long!

The Day of the Doctor: Roundup!

Greetings, Whovians! I, like so many others, will be tuning into the BBC tonight to view the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special and kick off to the final episodes of Number 11 (Matt Smith; tears).

In honor of the mad man in the blue box, I did a Doctor Who Crafty Round Up!

Do you cross stitch? This is a wonderful combo of Mad Men and the Eleventh Doctor! I'm geeking out!

Here we go-- one you can make with the kids! Crayon art has been seen all over the internet and I have still yet to try it! I probably would give it a go for my very own Tardis in the house...

The Fourth Doctor was famous for his long knit scarf. See how cute it is in knee-sock form?

Oh, how posh! A Tardis card Tutorial!! You can make your very own blue box that is bigger on the inside. I'm going to have to try my hand at this one.

Perler Beads can be used to make some awesome Christmas tree ornaments! In fact, she has a WHOLE WHO-TREE featured on her blog! Fantastic!

Ahhhhhh! And my mind is melting!! Also on Doodle Crafts, Natalie has made a family of Doctor Who stockings!! There is even tutorials so please head on over there if you are looking to celebrate the holidays, Doctor Who style!

For the crochetting set, there are a ton of versions of the Doctor and his feidnish Foes.

You can even convert your hook into a sonic screwdriver or a Tardis!

And this is just a taste of what is out there! Go forth and craft in honor of the man that has saved the Earth a hundred times over for 50 years, The Doctor!
